Ep.103 | Hong Kong-based curator and producer Joel Kwong discusses mental wellness, the central theme of this year’s Microwave International New Media Arts Festival. We explore how Artificial Reality tackles various mental wellness issues, such as domestic violence, and consider how technology can foster empathy. Additionally, we delve into concepts like a panic room for relaxation and the potential for AI to provide emotional support, among other topics.

Joel Kwong is an international media art curator, producer and educator. She is currently the Programme Director of Microwave International New Media Arts Festival and the founder of SIBYLS – a creative consultation & production agency. She has over 18 years of media art production & curation experiences, and has travelled to many different cities in the form of workshop, performance and exhibition. Joel frequently speaks at universities and festivals, e.g. Shenzhen media art fest, Transmediale in Berlin, Ars Electronica in Linz, ACT Festival in Gwangju/South Korea, University of Electro-communications in Tokyo/Japan etc.
